British driver Lando Norris from McLaren triumphed at the Singapore Grand Prix, securing his third win of the season and career. The 24 year old Bristol native outpaced reigning world champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull by over 20 seconds, reducing Verstappen's lead in the championship to 52 points. Oscar Piastri finished third.
Norris dominated the night race in Singapore from start to finish. Although he lost the bonus point for the fastest lap to Daniel Ricciardo of Racing Bulls towards the end, he continued his successful streak from Miami and the Netherlands. This podium finish marks his third in the last four races. McLaren also extended their lead in the Constructors' Championship over Red Bull to 41 points.
Verstappen has now gone eight races without a win. Nevertheless, he minimized his losses with a second-place finish and thanked Ricciardo over the radio for negating Norris's effort to secure the premium point.
Pole sitter Norris maintained his lead after the start against Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who marked his 350th F1 race. By the 16th lap, Norris had built a lead of over ten seconds, which he continued to extend. Two laps later, Hamilton pitted for new tires, dropping out of the top ten.
In the 29th lap, Norris made light contact with the wall and reported a damaged front wing. He pitted two laps later, but his mechanics decided not to replace the wing, deeming the damage minor.
After Verstappen's pit stop, Piastri moved into second place, pitting last in the 39th lap. The strategy paid off for the Australian, who overtook Hamilton on fresh tires and later his teammate George Russell.
Charles Leclerc from Ferrari closed in on Russell towards the end. Despite being in close proximity during the final laps, the Monegasque couldn't mount an attack and finished fifth. His teammate Carlos Sainz, who celebrated his 200th F1 start, secured seventh place.
