In an action-packed Seville derby on November 6, 2022, Sevilla FC managed to secure a victory over their city rivals Real Betis, despite both teams ending the match with fewer players on the field.

The tension in the match escalated in the 37th minute when Sevilla's Gonzalo Montiel received an upgraded yellow card, turning it into a red and sending him off the pitch. Moments later, teammate Marcos Acuña was also booked with a yellow card.

Real Betis appeared to take advantage of their numerical superiority when Sevilla's Jesús Navas, unfortunately, scored an own goal six minutes after Montiel's sending off. However, the derby's intensity did not subside as the match approached halftime.

In a dramatic twist just before the interval, Real Betis star Nabil Fekir was shown an upgraded card, which resulted in a red card, followed immediately by a yellow card for William Carvalho. Both teams were then down to ten men. As the second half began, further disciplinary actions saw Borja Iglesias of Real Betis receive an upgraded card in the 48th minute, followed by a red card a minute later, reducing Real Betis to nine men.

Sevilla made several strategic substitutions throughout the second half to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Real Betis attempted to reorganize by making changes of their own, but Sevilla's constant pressure finally paid off.

Amidst a flurry of cards that included yellows for Sevilla's Erik Lamela, Papu Gómez, Nemanja Gudelj, and Alex Telles, as well as for Betis's Luiz Henrique and Álex Moreno, Sevilla found the breakthrough. In the 81st minute, N. Gudelj found the back of the net with a normal goal, giving Sevilla the lead.

Despite additional substitutions and attempts to salvage the game, including one for Real Betis involving Sergio Canales in stoppage time, the match concluded with Sevilla taking away all three points from their local rivals. Claudio Bravo of Real Betis also received a yellow card in the closing moments of the game, adding to the long list of cautions in a highly charged derby encounter.
