In a gripping Serie A encounter, Empoli FC faced off against US Cremonese on the 11th of November, 2022. The match saw its fair share of action, cards, and strategic substitutions that played a crucial role in the outcome.

The first half of the match progressed without much fanfare until the 43rd minute when Cremonese's Soualiho Meïté was shown a yellow card, indicating the rising tension on the pitch. The halftime whistle blew with both teams level, but the deadlock didn't last long into the second half.

Empoli made an immediate impact after the break with S. Lammers coming on as the first substitution. This change proved pivotal because right at the 46th-minute mark, N. Cambiaghi found the back of the net, putting Empoli ahead with a normal goal. The home crowd roared in delight as Empoli took the lead.

Cremonese responded by making two substitutions in the 62nd minute, bringing on S. Ascacíbar for fresh legs, and notably, Soualiho Meïté made way after his earlier booking. Empoli didn't sit back either and made a double substitution in the 66th minute, introducing A. Grassi and J. Akpa Akpro to the fray.

Shortly after, the goal scorer Cambiaghi's night was slightly marred by a yellow card in the 69th minute, which coincided with a double substitution from Cremonese, bringing on E. Valeri and C. Buonaiuto in an effort to claw back into the game.

Empoli made their fourth substitution in the 77th minute, with F. Bandinelli coming on, and followed with their final change in the 85th minute, introducing M. Satriano. These tactical changes by Empoli fortified their gameplay and led to F. Parisi scoring a critical goal in the 88th minute, securing a solidifying lead for Empoli.

As the match neared its conclusion, Cremonese’s Charles Pickel received a yellow card in the 90th minute, adding to their woes. Despite any added time efforts, the match ended with Empoli taking all three points from the game.

The victory was a crucial one for Empoli as they looked to climb higher up the table, while US Cremonese was left to rue their chances and reflect on what might have been a different outcome had they capitalized on their opportunities.

Empoli FC

The Tuscany club has a tradition dating back to 1920 and has changed its name several times throughout its history. From the original Empoli FBC it gradually became ASF Empoli, Dopolavoro Empolese to today's Empoli FC. The Azzurri, as the team playing its home games at Stadio Carlo Castellani (capacity of more than 16,000 spectators) is also nicknamed, even played in the UEFA Cup in 2007. However, the vast majority of their time was spent in Italy's third highest competition. They have been more successful in recent seasons, but they are still more of a provincial club in the Italian scale, on the border between Serie A and Serie B.
