The Dutch football club NEC Nijmegen was founded in 1900. It is the 41st oldest club in the country! It plays its home games at the Goffertstadion with a capacity of 12,500 spectators and, in addition to tasting the atmosphere of the domestic cup finals in 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2000, it reached the third round of the UEFA Cup in the 2008/2009 season, where it finished after a double-header with Hamburger SV. Nijmegen have topped the top flight twice - in 1975, 2015. Among the famous managers we can name Piet de Visser, Alex Pastoor or George Charlton. Notable players include names like Danish Lasse Schöne or Rob Wielaert.
More about NEC NijmegenThe football team from Rotterdam SBV Excelsior plays its home matches at the Van Donge and De Roo stadium with a total capacity of four and a half thousand spectators. The nickname clearly documents the club's colours, Roodzwarten, meaning 'red and black'. The biggest rival is Sparta, another professional club from this port city, and we can certainly talk about the famous Feyenoord in this respect, although there is an official partnership (farm).
