Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club has been around for over 140 years, dating back to 1877. Back then it was still called St Luke's F.C., but that didn't last very long and the change to the current version occurred in 1879. Among football fans, the club is also known by the nickname Wolves, the use of which is certainly more convenient than the much longer official team name.
More about Wolverhampton Wanderers FCTheir nickname is The Clarets. Interestingly, this club has one of the largest fan bases in England in relation to the total population of the place they come from. That's the eponymous town of Burnley in Lancashire. We can get a good idea of this from the figures, with an average attendance per game of 20,000 people, in a city that has a population of around 70,000. It is certainly worth noting that the club's most famous supporter is Prince Charles. Former Libyan dictator Gaddafi was also a fan of the team.
