In a pulsating match on December 27, 2022, K. Sint-Truidense VV secured a significant victory over SV Zulte-Waregem, with the game featuring a mix of goals, discipline, and tactical changes that kept the fans on their toes throughout the 90 minutes.

Sint-Truidense hit the ground running and found themselves ahead by the 28th minute thanks to D. Hayashi, who managed to break through the Zulte-Waregem defense to score a well-executed goal. The early lead gave the home team confidence, but the dynamics of the match drastically shifted shortly after.

In the 36th minute, Zulte-Waregem's Bent Sormo received a straight red card, putting the visitors at a disadvantage with a reduced squad for more than half of the match. Despite being down to ten men, Zulte-Waregem displayed resilience and determination as they tried to maintain their defensive integrity and sought opportunities to counter-attack.

The second half saw Zulte-Waregem trying to reorganize as Moudou Tambedou was booked with a yellow card in the 56th minute, signaling growing pressure from Sint-Truidense. Zulte-Waregem's coach made strategic adjustments shortly after, with A. Ndour and N. Rommens entering the fray as part of a double substitution in the 58th minute to inject fresh legs and new tactics into the game.

Sint-Truidense continued to press and take advantage of the extra player, and their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when E. Bocat was brought on as their first substitute. This change further bolstered their attacking prowess and eventually led to G. Bruno doubling the advantage with a normal goal in the 70th minute, all but sealing the fate of the match.

Zulte-Waregem conducted their third and final substitution in the 75th minute, introducing A. Sissako in an attempt to salvage something from the game. Nonetheless, Sint-Truidense held firm, controlling the tempo and comfortably seeing out the rest of the match.

By the end, the scoreline reflected Sint-Truidense's dominance and effective exploitation of the numerical advantage. For Zulte-Waregem, the match left much to desire as they had to endure the setback of an early sending-off and rued the missed opportunities to compete on equal footing.

The final whistle brought relief and joy to the Sint-Truidense camp, while Zulte-Waregem was left to reflect on what might have been had they remained with a full complement of players. The result was a testament to Sint-Truidense’s ability to capitalize on their chances and control the match despite Zulte-Waregem's tenacious spirit.
