The Tuscany club has a tradition dating back to 1920 and has changed its name several times throughout its history. From the original Empoli FBC it gradually became ASF Empoli, Dopolavoro Empolese to today's Empoli FC. The Azzurri, as the team playing its home games at Stadio Carlo Castellani (capacity of more than 16,000 spectators) is also nicknamed, even played in the UEFA Cup in 2007. However, the vast majority of their time was spent in Italy's third highest competition. They have been more successful in recent seasons, but they are still more of a provincial club in the Italian scale, on the border between Serie A and Serie B.
More about Empoli FCThe club's name in Italian is Torino FC and its nicknames are Il Toro (the bull) or I Granata (the grenade). The club colours are red and white. They play their matches at the multi-purpose Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino with a capacity of 27,987 fans. The stadium was built in 1933. Although it is a vintage stadium, but of course it has also undergone renovations, most recently in 2006, it has the highest UEFA rating.
