The German club 1. FC Kaiserslautern has been in existence since 1900 and, in addition to football, is involved in other sports such as basketball, boxing, handball, field hockey, triathlon and athletics. They play their matches at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, which boasts a capacity of around 50,000 seats. The stadium is named after the former captain of the German football team in the 1954 World Cup.
They have even managed to become German champions in the past, most recently in the 1997/1998 season. However, at the moment, 1. FC Kaiserslautern are in the lower competitions of the German league ladder. The last major success was the 2. Bundesliga title in 2009/2010 and then the third place in 2012/2013.
