The Italian club, whose nicknames are Giallorossi (yellow and red) or Biancoscudati (white shields), actually has a white shield in its emblem, where the club colours, yellow and red, are also found. At home they play in a white jersey with black shorts and the jersey also contains yellow details. The away jersey is red with yellow details. They play their home games at the Stadio Comunale San Filippo-Franco Scoglio, which has a capacity of 37,895 seats. The Italian side was founded in 1900, and is based in Messina, Sicily.
Throughout the club's history, there have been several mergers with other sports teams. They played Serie A for the first time in the 1921/22 season. As far as modern history is concerned, in 1993 the club does not obtain a professional league license, a new club is formed and starts playing first at the regional level. In the 1997/98 season another merger comes. Between the 2004/05 and 2006/07 seasons, they reappear in Serie A, but in 2008, due to financial problems, bankruptcy is declared and the club starts in the 4th league, where it still is. Bankruptcy also befell the club in 2017.
