Angers SCO is a soccer team from the French department of Maine-et-Loire, which is as old as the French Football Federation, as both were founded in 1919. It is a team that has rotated the leagues it has played in several times. The last time they were promoted to Ligue 1 was in 2015, and that was after a rather long hiatus, having not played the top competition for 21 years.
While this is not a team that has outright written the history of French football, there have been some very quality players in their jersey throughout their history. Perhaps the most legendary name is Raymond Kopa, who played here in the late 40s and early 50s and later appeared in a Real Madrid jersey. The Stade Raymond Kopa, with a capacity of over 17,000 spectators, is also named in his honour, where Angers SCO play their home games.
