The club, whose emblem features yellow and black, is one of the most successful in Greece. Aris Thessaloniki scared its rivals especially in the interwar period, dominating the Greek top competition three times, namely in 1928, 1932 and 1946, and the National Cup in 1970, but in this competition it is rather an underdog because of its nine times final participation.
It plays its home matches at the Kleanthse Vikelidis Stadium with a capacity of 23,400 spectators. It was founded in 1914 and is nicknamed by Aris fans, for example, Theós tou polémou (God of War - simply because the name reflects the ancient Ares) or Kitrinomavroi, simply 'the yellow and black'. The team was briefly led by Jozef Jarabinsky in 1996, and among the famous players is Greek international Dinos Kouis, while Angelos Charisteas, the 2004 European champion, who also wore the jersey of Schalke 04 or Werder Bremen, took his first football steps here.
