In Italian, the club's name is AS Roma, and they are nicknamed I Giallorossi (the yellow and red), La Lupa (the wolves) and La Magica. Hence, their club colours are yellow and red. They play at the Stadio Olympico, which they share with Lazio. Its capacity is 70 634 people.
The club's biggest rivals are their neighbour Lazio. Their matches are referred to as the Derby della Capitale and have an extraordinary intensity. Fans dramatically show their emotions and it is referred to as one of the most emotional derbies in the world. Another derby the club plays against Naples, this is the Derby del Sole. There is also a rivalry with league giants such as Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan in recent history.
There are radical fan groups associated with the club. The Fedadyn group is responsible for organised riots by local hooligans. In 2014, there was even an incident that led to a shooting by a radical AS Roma fan. He was given a 26-year prison sentence for causing the death, eventually commuted to 16 years. This happened during clashes with Napoli fans who were in Rome for their club's Italian Cup final against Fiorentina.
The club was founded in 1927 in Rome. This was through the merger of a trio of Roman clubs, which were Roman FC, Alba-Audace Roma and Fortitudo-Pro Roma. Italo Foschi was in charge of the project, he wanted a big competitive team in Rome that could compete with the big clubs from the north of Italy.
The club won Serie A a total of 3 times in its history, in 1942, 1983 and 2001. The club has been in the top half of the table in the last two decades of the top competition. In recent years it has even finished second or third.
It has also had success in league cups in the past. It has won the Italian Cup 9 times, most recently twice in succession in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons. It has dominated the Italian Super Cup twice, in 2001 and 2007.
