The second most successful club in the history of the Bundesliga has the nicknames Die Borussen, Der BVB and Die Schwarzgelben (the yellow and black). Perhaps needless to say, the club colours are yellow and black, which is also on the emblem. They play at the Wesfalenstadion, a stadium with a capacity of 81,365 for league matches and 65,825 for international ones. However, for sponsorship reasons it is now called Signal Iduna Park. It is the largest stadium in Germany and the seventh largest in Europe. It is also the stadium with the highest average attendance than any other club stadium in the world.
The club has a long-standing rivalry with its local neighbour, Schalke 04. The matches they play between them are known as Revierderby. The league's most successful club, Bayern Munich, can also be described as rivals.
The club was founded in 1909 in the city of Dortmund, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As is common with many German clubs, it has a number of other sporting divisions in addition to football and more than 145,000 members.
Borussia Dortmund has a total of 8 championship titles from the highest German competition. Three of them were won before the current Bundesliga format, where their first season was 1963/64. However, the club did not hold on. They broke through for the second time in the 1976/77 season and are still a participant in the Bundesliga today. And a successful participant. Since the Bundesliga has been in operation, they have the last of their five titles from 2012. In addition, they have also been runners-up several times, for example in the 2018/19 season.
In the league cups, they have the DFB-Pokal to their credit, and have done it 4 times, the last one being from the 2016/17 season. They have one more win, five wins, in the DFL-Supercup. Borussia Dortmund have also celebrated success on the European stage. They won the UEFA Champions League in the 1996/97 season and reached the final in the 2012/13 season. It has also won the Cup Winners' Cup.
