The Turkish football club from Istanbul was founded here in 1990, then under the name İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor. It has been known by its current name, İstanbul Başakşehir F.K., since 2014. The club colours are blue and orange. At home they play mostly in orange jerseys with blue details, then away they play in black jerseys with orange details. For their home games they have Fatih Terim Stadium, which has a capacity of 17,156 spectators.
Istanbul is a city that is alive with football, so this team is one of the five Istanbul teams that operate in the top Turkish competition known as the Süper Lig. The other Istanbul clubs are Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Kasımpaşa. The club has been experiencing a strong period in recent years, finishing 2nd in the Premier League table in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons. Currently, the club has played in the Süper Lig almost continuously since the 2007/08 season, with the only exception being the 2013/14 season, which was played in a lower competition, the First League.
