The Portuguese team CS Marítimo was founded in Funchal, Madeira in 1910. It is one of Portugal's leading teams, but due to the dominance of Lisbon and Porto, it is not as well known outside its country. Over 10,000 spectators can watch their matches at the Estádio do Marítimo. Several Portuguese players have worn their jersey and have gone on to play for some of the world's biggest clubs.
During their history, they have managed to become winners of the first league once, a very long time ago, when it happened in the 1925/1926 season. They also have experience in international football. In this case, that means trying to qualify for the Europa League, which usually ends in the preliminary rounds, but in 2012/2013 they made it to the group stage.
