The French football club Dijon FCO has only existed since 1998, when it was formed by the merger of two local teams Cercle Sportif Laïque Dijonnais and Dijon FC. Among the elite of the Ligue 1 for the first time managed for the 2011/2012 edition, but not for long. The team possessed the worst defence in the competition and so relegation to Ligue 2 followed. 63 goals conceded in 38 matches was the reason.
The team played in the second league for a couple of years, only to return to the top French competition in 2016 after finishing second in the table. However, Dijon failed to make a significant breakthrough at the second attempt. So far, every season in Ligue 1 has seen it finish at the back of the table, meaning that its supporters at its home stadium, the Stade Gaston Gérard, have quite often witnessed a result they would not have wanted.
