Dumbarton FC was founded on 23 December 1872, making it the fifth oldest football club in Scotland. Only Kilmarnock (1869), Stranraer (1870) and Rangers (1872) are older. They play at the small Dumbarton Football Stadium, which has a capacity of around 2,000 spectators, and interestingly is close to the local castle.
They are even the winners of the first league, but that was a really long time ago as they are the champions from the 1890/1891 and 1891/1892 seasons. Because of their age they have also collected a number of other trophies, even if only of local significance. But the more significant ones are usually several decades old.
