English national football team is one of the most watched national teams in the world. This is helped by a rich history and the fact that it is one of the two oldest national teams in the world. Together with the Scottish team, they first competed in 1872. Since then, they have collected a lot of sporting success, including the most valuable trophies.
As far as the European Championships are concerned, their best finish is a bronze medal from the 1968 and 1996 editions. The World Championships are therefore more successful from their point of view, as they were champions there in 1966, plus they lost the bronze medal match twice in 1990 and 2018.
