They are nicknamed The Toffies, The Blues and are also known as The People's Club. The fans are known as Evertonians. The club colours are royal blue and white. It is one of the two famous clubs in Liverpool and is one of the more unsuccessful clubs in England. In fact, it has played the most seasons in England's top league competition and has earned the most points of all clubs combined.
Their home stadium is Goodison Park, which holds 39,572 spectators. The stadium itself also holds the distinction of hosting the most Premier League matches in the whole of England. This is partly because Everton have been in the top flight continuously since the 1954/55 season, the longest continuous tenure of any club in the top flight ever.
Everton's age-old rival is, of course, its immediate neighbour Liverpool. Their matches against each other are known as the Merseyside derby, of course, after the fact that both clubs are based in the county of Merseyside.
The club was founded in 1878. However, its roots would be found as far back as 1868 when the decision was made to build a new chapel. This was opened in 1871. The then Reverend B.S. Chambers was responsible for the building of a parish youth cricket team. However, cricket is a summer sport, so the football club was the result of a search for sporting alternatives over the winter period. It was formed under the name of St. Domingo FC but in 1879, due to the great interest in football outside the parish, it was renamed to its present name.
Due to its presence in the top competition since the 1954/55 season, the club has already won 9 league titles, among others. The last one, however, is from the 1986/87 season, so it has been quite a long time. It is also a five-time winner of the FA Cup, with the last trophy dating back to the 1994/95 season. It has also won the FA Charity Shield 9 times. At European level, he won the Cup Winners' Cup in the 1984/85 season.
