This football club is nicknamed Fuggerstädter. The nickname is named after the well-known prominent Fugger banking family from the home town of Augsburg. The club plays at the Augsburg Arena, which is currently called WWK ARENA for sponsorship reasons. For league matches the stadium has a capacity of 30,660, but for international matches they are working with a capacity of 28,367. The club colours are white and green. In addition to these colours, there are also red elements on the jerseys and red is also represented in the emblem.
In the past, the club has developed a strong rivalry with another Bavarian club, TSV 1860 München. Although it is not one of the biggest Bavarian derbies, it is still attractive to many fans.
As is obvious, the club was founded in the Bavarian city of Augsburg, in 1907. Back then, it was still under the name FC Allemania Augsburg. The name has changed a few more times since then. It took its current form in 1969 after a merger with TSV Schwaben Augsburg.
The club's greatest achievement to date can certainly be counted among its first ever promotion to the top flight, which was only achieved in 2010/11. In that season, the club scored the fewest goals of any team in Ligue 2 and was promoted from second place.
During its existence, the club has fluctuated between the second and third divisions. After 2000, however, its results were not good at all and it was relegated to the fourth division, where it stayed for two seasons. The club recovered in 2006, when it began its journey to the top competition, the Bundesliga.
Augsburg is the largest club in Swabia, one of the administrative units of Bavaria. In this region it has had success in the local Schwaben Cup, which it has won 13 times.
