The club nickname is simply Barça or Blaugrana. Fans are then called Culés, Barcelonistas, Blaugranes or Azulgranas. The club motto is "Més que un club" (more than a club). The club colours are garnet and blue, with the distinctive vertical stripes on the home jerseys. The home stadium is Camp Nou, which has undergone several renovations in its history. Its current capacity is 99 354 seats. This impressive capacity makes it the largest stadium not only in Spain but also in the whole of Europe. It is also the third largest stadium in the world.
As Barcelona is the second most successful club in the league, it is understandable that its main rival is the most successful league club, Real Madrid. They play arguably the most famous league derby in the world, the famous El Clásico. Moreover, in modern history, it has taken on the charge of a duel between two of the best players on the planet, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The club was founded in 1899 in Barcelona, Catalonia, by Swiss businessman Joan Gamper, who came here on business. Barcelona does not only play football, it also has clubs in handball, futsal or roller hockey. But if we go back to football, Spain's top competition, La Liga, has been Barcelona's home since 1929 and they have never been relegated.
The club was the 26th league champion, the first time in 1929, the first ever club in the competition's history. In the first two decades of this century, it more or less exchanged trophies with its rival Real Madrid.
The Supercopa de España has been won by Barcelona 13 times, the most recent years being 2013, 2016 and 2018. The Copa del Rey has brought the club 30 victories, the most recent being four in a row from the 2014/15 to 2017/18 seasons.
And the international scene? Here's 5 UEFA Champions League titles, most recently from 2015. From the same year, it also has recent UEFA Super Cup wins (5 times in total) and the Club World Cup (3 times in total). Barcelona has also won the Cup Winners' Cup 4 times and the FA Cup 3 times.
