GD Estoril Praia, commonly known as Estoril, is a Portuguese football club based in the coastal town of Estoril, in the municipality of Cascais. The team was founded on 17 May 1939 and traditionally play their home matches at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, which has a seating capacity of just under 8,000 spectators.
Estoril has fluctuated between the top two divisions of Portuguese football, occasionally taking part in the Primeira Liga (the top flight) and often in the LigaPro (the second tier). The club is known for its yellow and blue striped kit, which reflects the sunny beaches and oceanic surroundings of the Estoril coast.
Although GD Estoril Praia does not boast a trophy cabinet as large as the major Portuguese clubs like FC Porto, Sporting CP, or SL Benfica, they have had their moments of success. They have won the Segunda Liga several times and have competed in European competitions, including appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
The club focuses on developing young talent through their academy, often integrating them into the first team. This strategy has seen them produce players who have gone on to compete in top leagues across Europe.
