The club's nicknames include Gençler (young men) or Ankara Rüzgârı (wind of Ankara). This, of course, gives a clue that this is a club that was founded in the capital city of Ankara. It happened in 1923. Their home stadium is the Eryaman Stadium, which has a capacity of equal 22,000 spectators. The predominant club colours are red and black. The home jerseys have black vertical stripes along with black shorts. The away jersey is predominantly red, alternatively white.
The club's main rival is neighbouring club Ankaragücü and their mutual matches are referred to as the Derby of the Capital. The club won the domestic championship in 1941 and 1946. It then won the Turkish Football Cup in the 1986/87 and 2000/01 seasons.
