Greenock Morton FC was founded in 1874 as Morton Football Club and is now one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. The renaming to the current name occurred in 1994, bringing their home town of Greenock into the name. Their stadium, Cappielow Park, offers the opportunity to watch matches to approximately 11.5 thousand spectators.
There is an interesting fact attached to the team, as it has the most promotions and also relegations to the top flight of any Scottish side. Both opportunities have happened to them ten times so far. However, since 1988 Greenock Morton FC have not played among the elite and are currently in the second league. So far they have won ten titles at lower levels of football, the last time that happened was the 2014/2015 season when they dominated the third division.
