The Scottish football team Gretna FC, based in Dumfries and Galloway, was founded in 1946 and played in various leagues until 2008, when it was disbanded. It is a team that became famous mainly due to relatively rapid progression through competitions. They managed to go from the lowest level to the Scottish Premier League in just five seasons.
This team also made it all the way to the Cup final twice, but neither time ended well. Despite decent success, Gretna FC remains one of the lesser known football teams from Scotland.
