The Hamburger SV football team has already celebrated a century of existence, having been founded in 1919. The Hamburg club played in the first league throughout its existence until 2018, when they were relegated to the second highest competition. Until their relegation, they were the only team to have played in the first league continuously since their foundation. For their home matches, the Volksparkstadion with a capacity of 57,000 spectators serves them.
Historically, Hamburger SV is also one of the most successful German teams. They have managed to win the top flight six times so far, the last time their fans rejoiced was in the 1982/1983 season. Their collection of successes also includes international trophies. They won the European Champions Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) in 1982/1983, the Cup Winners' Cup in 1976/1977 and the Intertoto Cup in 2005 and 2007.
