The nickname they have earned is The Terriers. However, the Terriers have only been playing in the second highest competition, the EFL Championship, since the 2019/20 season, having been relegated from the Premier League the season before. The club colours are blue and white, which is characteristic of their jerseys with vertical stripes. The club's home stadium is Kirklees Stadium, now known for sponsorship reasons as John Smith's Stadium, which holds 24,121 spectators. The use of the stadium is multi-purpose, the club has been at home here since 1994, but it is also home to the local rugby team, the Huddlesfield Giants.
Their main rivals are Leeds United, with whom they play the so-called West Yorkshire derby. The rivalry between the clubs has waxed and waned over the years depending on their tenure in the various divisions of the English league and their partial success. Their derbies are fairly evenly matched, as Huddlesfield Town have triumphed 32 times out of 78 matches, their opponents 27 times, and there are 19 draws.
The club was founded in 1908 in the town of the same name, Huddlesfield. Their original sanctuary was Ledds Road, which was built in 1908. On its site now stands the current Kirklees Stadium.
The club holds the now somewhat bearded hat-trick of 1924, 1925 and 1926, when they became champions of the top flight 3 times in succession. Most recently, the club broke through to the Premier League in the 2016/17 season, where they did so in a penalty shootout and a 4-3 win over Reading. It was the participation in the highest competition won after 45 years. However, they eventually only lasted in the Premier League until the 2018/19 season, as we mentioned in the introduction.
We must not forget the success in the oldest club competition, the FA Cup, from where the team has a victory from 1922. From that year, it actually has a double, as it also won the FA Charity Shield then.
