This Greek football club is known worldwide as Iraklis F.C., with nicknames including Imitheos (demigods) or Ghireos (elders). The club colours are azure and white, with the colours inspired by the Greek flag. On the home jerseys, this is shown by the wide vertical blue and white stripes. Outdoors, they play in white jerseys with a blue sash. The club is at home at Kaftanzoglio Stadium, which has a capacity of 27,770 spectators. The club was founded in 1908, in the city of Thessaloniki.
The club is the oldest in the city and one of the oldest in Greece. It is also a founding member of the Association of Football Clubs of Macedonia as well as the Hellenic Football Federation. Before the creation of the national league Alpha Ethniki, it competed in a league run by the Association of Football Clubs of Macedonia, winning it a total of 5 times. It also reached the final of the Greek Cup 5 times, but won the trophy only once, in 1976. On international soil, it won the Balkan Cup in 1985.
