Moroccan national football team is nicknamed the Lions of the Atlas, the warriors of the Atlas Mountains that run through Morocco. Morocco's national team represents the country in international football events, which include the World Cup and also the African Cup of Nations. It is at the African Cup of Nations that they have some of the achievements that we can mention here, namely the first place in 1976, the second place in 2004 and finally the bronze in 1980. The first time the national team of Morocco appeared in this tournament was in 1972.
Moroccan national team has also secured participation in the World Championships 5 times, if we focus on the more important international tournaments. However, nothing major has ever come out of this participation. The Moroccans made their first appearance at the World Cup in 1970 and failed to advance out of the group. Their greatest success came in their second participation in 1986, when they were knocked out by Germany in the eighth round. Their other participations then came in 1994, 1998 and 2018, when they failed to advance out of the group in all cases.
