The nicknames of this club include The Exiles, The Ironsides, The Port and The County. Their home jerseys are orange and black, with orange being the jersey itself and black being the shorts. This colour combination can also be found in the club crest. The home stadium is Rodney Parade, which offers a capacity of 7,840 spectators. This Welsh football club was founded back in 1912, and modern history has been written since 1989 when it was re-launched. The club is based in the town of Newport, which is part of the ceremonial county of Gwent.
For most of its history, the club has been in the lower competitions, and within the English league system (now the 4th highest level, League Two) where it has played along with several other Welsh clubs since 1920. However, it has also played in the Welsh Cup, from which it also won, in the 1979/80 edition. Victory in this regional knockout competition then propelled him into participation in the Cup Winners' Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals.
