The club's nicknames are Styrian Pride, Vijoličasti or Vijolice (violets). The colours of this Slovenian football club are therefore, of course, purple, and also yellow. At home they play mainly in purple with yellow details, while away the yellow and white combination prevails. At home they are at the Ljudski vrt stadium, which has a capacity of 12,702 people. The club was founded in 1960, in the city of the same name, Maribor.
It is Slovenia's most successful football club, having won the Slovenian top competition 15 times. The PrvaLiga has seen the last decade mostly dominated by this club, where they have always celebrated the championship title except for one season. They have also won the Slovenian Cup 9 times and the Slovenian Super Cup 4 times. On international soil, they celebrated winning the Intertoto Cup, in 2006. The team is also the only Slovenian team to have participated in the UEFA Champions League group stage, in the 1999/00 and 2014/15 seasons.
