Fudbalski klub Crvena zvezda, known as Crvena zvezda Belgrade or CZ Belgrade for short, has been playing football since 1945. Historically, it is the most successful football team in Yugoslavia and subsequently in Serbia. And it didn't just stay with domestic success, they managed to make a name for themselves internationally as well, as they still participate in the Europa League and the more prestigious Champions League.
The greatest success of the past can probably be considered the triumph in the Champions Cup of European Countries (PMEZ), the predecessor of today's Champions League. This success was achieved by Crvena zvezda Belgrade players in the 1990/1991 edition. There is also an interesting fact associated with the team during this period, namely that two of its players, Darko Pančev and Dejan Savićević, were joint runners-up in the 1991 Ballon d'Or poll for the best footballer in the world.
