They call them Kırmızı Şimşekler (red lightning) and indeed, the dominant club colour is the deep red to red largely predominant on the home jerseys. In addition, there is also the colour white, which is predominantly found on away jerseys. The alternative colour this time combines vertical red and white stripes with white shorts. Home games are played at the sanctuary of Samsun Stadium with a capacity of 33,919 people. The club's founding dates back to 1965 and it operates in the Turkish city of Samsun.
For most of its history, the club played in Turkey's second highest competition, finishing second in the 1968/69 season and then from modern history the 2010/11 season. Also from 1969, the club celebrated its first promotion to Turkey's top competition, the Süper Lig. In the 1993/94 season, it won the Balkan Cup, a now defunct international football competition between clubs from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey and the former Yugoslavia.
