San Jose Earthquakes, a California soccer team, was founded in 1994, but at the time it was still called the San Jose Clash. The renaming took place in 1999, and it was such a return of the Earthquakes to the city, as a club of that name had already played soccer in San Jose in the 1970s and 1980s.
They play at Earthquakes Stadium with a capacity of 18,000 fans. Their biggest achievements are two MLS Cup trophies from 2001 and 2003, alongside the Supporters' Shield from 2005 and 2012. In addition, the San Jose Earthquakes have twice been awarded the MLS Fair Play Award in 2001 and 2010.
