Saudi Arabia's football team has a proper exotic nickname because they are called the Sons of the Desert. They represent their country at international events, which include, of course, the World Cup, but also the lesser-known Asian Football Championship. This team won the Asian Football Championship 3 times, in 1984, 1988 and 1996. The second place belongs to them in 1992, 2000 and 2007.
However, if we look at the more important and competitive tournaments, the Saudi national football team has qualified for the World Cup 5 times in total. However, on four occasions they did not advance out of the group at all, and in one case, namely in 1994, they were eliminated in the eighth finals by the national team of Sweden. In terms of team statistics, it is interesting to note that Mohamed Al-Deayea has the most starts for the national team, 178 in total, and Majed Abdullah has the most goals scored, 72.
