The club is called Silesian or Yellow and Blue. Their jerseys are a combination of yellow and blue, in the form of vertical stripes. This motif can also be found in the emblem along with the Silesian eagle. The club plays its matches at the Opava Municipal Stadium, which is also called the Stadion v Městských sadech. Its capacity is 7 550 seats. The club's main rivalry is with another Silesian club, Baník Ostrava.
The club has produced some interesting players, such as Petr Švancara, who scored 20 goals for the club, back then in the 2nd league in the 2002/03 season. During his time in the first league, it is worth mentioning Tomáš Smola, who scored a total of 9 goals in the 2018/19 season.
A rich history of German football in Opava preceded the current club. It is connected with the German club Troppauer Fussballverein, which was founded in Opava in 1907. A year later, another German club, Troppauer Sportklub, was founded in the town, as well as the Czech club Slezan Opava. However, the three clubs were cramped on one pitch, so a new pitch was soon built on the grounds of the former cyclotron.
The German club had a glorious era before World War II, when it played in the highest competition organized by the German Football Association in the Czechoslovakia. This was between 1922 and 1924. It is also worth mentioning the participation in the Oberliga between 1933 and 1935. Four years later, the club NSTG Troppau was founded, which participated in the Sudeten Gauliga, the former top football league of the Great German Empire. Its demise came in 1945, when the German population was expelled from the town.
In the bombed-out post-war Opava, the current purely Czech club, SK Slezan Opava, was founded in 1945. The name changed many times and it has had its current name since 1998. It played its first matches at the U Střelnice ground and gradually worked its way through a complex system of regional competitions.
The historic promotion to the First League came in 1998 and after relegation the club returned again in 2003. However, existential problems and the regional championship followed and the club's administration was transferred to the city of Opava. The club's most recent league appearance was in 2019, when they finished in 12th position.
