Sporting Kansas City was founded in 1995 and has been playing in the MLS since the following year. The club was originally called the Kansas City Wizards and the name was changed to City in November 2010. They play their home games at Children's Mercy Park, which has a capacity of approximately 18.5 thousand soccer fans.
They have not yet become overall Major League Soccer champions, but they have won a few awards in their existence. For 2000, it is the Supporters' Shield for the regular season winners, they also triumphed twice in the MLS Cup in 2000 and 2013. Along with that, they have also been able to enjoy the U.S. Open Cup several times in 2004, 2012, 2015 and 2017.
