Their nicknames include I Biancocelesti (the white and sky blue) and Le Aquile (the eagles). This also suggests that they have an eagle in their emblem and that their colours are white and sky blue. They are at home at the Stadio Olympico, which holds 70,634 people, making it the largest stadium in Rome.
The club's main rivalry is with the other Roman club, which is AS Roma, with whom they also share the same stadium. The mutual matches are referred to as the Derby della Capitale and it is one of the Italian derbies with an extraordinary intensity. The fans are always very passionate and give vent to their emotions. There have also been several incidents on this occasion, including the death of a Lazio fan during a match in the 1979/80 season. In general, this derby is even considered one of the most dramatic in the whole world, which is probably telling enough about the atmosphere.
The original name of the Roman club was Società Podistica Lazio when it was founded in 1900. It is the oldest football club in Rome. The club was implicated in the 2006 match-fixing corruption scandal involving several Italian clubs. Lazio was hit with a points deduction.
