The club is based in Paisley and is nicknamed The Buddies or The Saints. They are at home at St. Mirren Park, which holds 7,937 people. Their main rivals are of course their nearest neighbours, Greenock Morton, who currently play in the second highest competition. The rivalry between the fans is quite strong and visible.
The club's colours are black and white, which are represented by wide vertical stripes on the jerseys. This raises interesting theories about the choice of colours. A popular theory is that the stripes supposedly represent the Black and White Cart rivers that flow through the town of Paisley. Recently, however, evidence has emerged that monks in the local abbey wore black and white striped robes. The robes changed little over the years, but the width of the stripes varied and some years the stripes were even horizontal.
The club was founded in 1877 in Paisley and their name is derived from the town's patron saint Saint Mirin. There is also a street in the town called St. Mirren Street. The club has had some successes and if we leave aside winning the lower divisions, these are mainly:
Whilst the Scottish Cup was won in 1926, 1959 and 1987, the Scottish League Cup is from more recent history, namely 2013. They have alternated between the lower and top competitions in the past, most recently fighting to stay in the Scottish Premiership in the 2018/19 season as the 11th team in the barrage.
