The nickname of this Italian football club is Granata, and their club colours are brown and white. These appear both in the emblem and on the jersey. They play predominantly in brown at home, while away the colours on the jersey are predominantly white. Alternatively, they also use a yellow jersey. At home they are at the Stadio Arechi, which has a capacity of 25,000. The club was founded in 1919, in the city of Salermo in Campania, southern Italy. Financial difficulties have carried the club through several bankruptcies.
The last time the football club got back on its feet was in 2011, when it was re-founded as Salermo Calcio, by men Marco Mazzaroma and Claudio Lotio. Interestingly, the latter owned SS Lazio, among other things. The club newly started to play in the 5th league and in 2012 took its current name. In the past, the club had its bright moments when it played in the top competition, first in the 1947/48 edition.
